Es handelt sich um eine vom WWF konzipierte und organisierte internationale Veranstaltung, deren Ziel darin besteht, durch eine einfache, aber konkrete Geste auf die dringende Notwendigkeit aufmerksam zu machen, in den fortschreitenden Klimawandel einzugreifen: das Ausschalten der künstlichen Beleuchtung für eine Stunde an einem festgelegten Tag.
