401st FESTIVAL OF SANTA ROSALIA

 

THURSDAY, JULY 10

11:00 am The Archbishop opens the doors of his home – Fraternal meeting with representatives of religions at the Archbishop’s Palace.
5:00 pm Concert of the Cathedral bells.
5:30 pm Offering of wax to the Santuzza with the participation of the Mayor, the Confraternities and the faithful. Procession route: Piazza Pretoria, Quattro Canti, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Cathedral. 6:00 pm Holy Mass presided over by Mons. Filippo Sarullo and followed by the solemn rite of exit of the silver reliquary Urn of the Saint from the Chapel and placement near the altar. The liturgy is animated by the S. Sebastiano choir of the Municipal Police, directed by Maestro Serafina Sandovalli.
9:00 PM Show Rosalia: free to be free, by the Municipality of Palermo – Department of Culture.
The Cathedral remains open for the personal veneration of the Relics of Saint Rosalia until 11:00 PM.

FRIDAY 11 JULY

7:30 a.m. Holy Mass.
11:00 a.m. Holy Mass presided over by His Excellency Monsignor Corrado Lorefice, Archbishop of Palermo, for the Municipal Administration at the former Oratory of S. Mattia ai Crociferi – via Butera.
5:00 p.m. Holy Rosary and Litany of Saint Rosalia.
6:00 p.m. Holy Mass presided over by Don Giuseppe Alotto with the participation of the parish of S. Stefano di Quisquina and the presence of the ancient reliquary bust kept there. The choir of the same parish animates the celebration.
The Cathedral remains open for the personal veneration of the Relics of St. Rosalia until 11:00 p.m.

SATURDAY 12 JULY

7:30 a.m. Holy Mass.
5:30 p.m. Holy Rosary and Litany of St. Rosalia.
6:00 p.m. Holy Mass with the participation of the Parish of S. Maria Maddalena in Ciminna and the Florio Salamone Institute for the Blind of Palermo. The Parish Priest of Ciminna, Don Mario Cassata, presides; the Chaplain of the Institute for the Blind, Don Gioacchino Ragona, concelebrates. The celebration is animated by the choir of the same Institute of the musical literacy course, directed by Maestro Giosué D’Asta.
9:00 p.m. Concert of the Children’s Choir of the A. Scarlatti Conservatory of Music directed by Maestro A. Sottile.

SUNDAY 13 JULY

6:00 p.m. Holy Mass presided over by Don Salvatore Petralia with the participation of the parish of S. Giovanni Apostolo (CEP). The choir of the same parish animates the celebration.
9:00 p.m. Eucharistic Adoration in the Cathedral animated by the Youth Ministry of Monreale and Palermo. Presided by H.E. Mons. Gualtiero Isacchi, Archbishop of Monreale, with the presence of H.E. Mons. Corrado Lorefice, Archbishop of Palermo. Text of the prayer inspired by their Open Letter “For a more human humanity we need not to forget this violence and this pain”, published on the occasion of the events that occurred in Monreale last May.

MONDAY 14 JULY

5:30 p.m. Holy Mass presided over by Mons. Filippo Sarullo, Parish Priest of the Cathedral. The choir G.P. da Palestrina directed by Maestro Giosuè D’Asta will animate.
6:30 p.m. Musical entertainment on the Cathedral square and tour of the streets of the historic center by the Palermo Band of Maestro Massimo Vella.
7:00 p.m. Solemn Pontifical Vespers presided over by His Excellency the Most Reverend Monsignor Corrado Lorefice, Archbishop of Palermo. The Mayor, Prof. Roberto Lagalla, the Authorities, the Metropolitan and Palatine Chapters, the Clergy and the Archiepiscopal Seminary will participate. The Cathedral Choir, directed by Maestro Mauro Visconti, will animate the celebration.
9:00 p.m. Triumphal chariot procession.

TUESDAY 15 JULY, SOLEMNITY OF THE FINDING OF THE BODY OF ST. ROSALIA

8:00 AM – 9:30 AM Holy Masses.
10:30 AM Musical entertainment in the Cathedral square and tour of the streets of the historic center by the Palermo Band of Maestro Massimo Vella.
11.00 Solemn Pontifical Eucharistic Celebration, with Papal Blessing and annexed Plenary Indulgence, presided over by His Excellency the Most Reverend Monsignor Corrado Lorefice, Archbishop of Palermo, with the participation of the Mayor, the Authorities, the Metropolitan and Palatine Chapters, the Clergy and the Archiepiscopal Seminary. The Celebration is animated by the Cathedral Choir, directed by Maestro Mauro Visconti.
5.00 p.m. Concert of the Cathedral bells.
5.30 p.m. Holy Mass presided over by Monsignor Gino Lo Galbo, Ciantro of the Cathedral Chapter.
7.00 p.m. Solemn City Procession of the Urn containing the Relics of Saint Rosalia. At the exit, on via M. Bonello, singing of the Rosalia di rosa e di giglio Hymn. Itinerary: Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Quattro Canti, (song of the hymn of thanksgiving Te Deum – Cathedral Choir – and entrustment of the City to the Santuzza – tribute by F. Picciurro), Piazza Marina (the Urn is welcomed by the Children’s Choir of the A. Scarlatti Conservatory of Music directed by Maestro A. Sottile). Message from the Archbishop to the City. Return of the procession along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Quattro Canti, Via Maqueda, discesa dei Giovenchi, Piazza S. Onofrio, Via Panneria, Piazza Monte di Pietà (stop in front of the first votive shrine dedicated to the Santuzza), Via Judica, Via Gioiamia, Via M. Bonello and return to the Cathedral.
The first part of the procession is accompanied by the “Cav. Michele Cascino” Band and the return is accompanied by the Band of the “A. Marinuzzi” City of Palermo Musical Cultural Association of Giovanni and Salvatore Bottino.
11:00 p.m. Fireworks show in the Cathedral square.
