Sunday January 23, 2022 – THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
From the Gospel according to Luke (Lk 1: 1-4; 4: 14-21)
Since many have tried to tell in order the events that have taken place among us, as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning and became ministers of the Word have transmitted them to us, so I too have decided to do careful research on every circumstance, from the very beginning, and to write an orderly report for you, illustrious Teòfilo, so that you can realize the solidity of the teachings you have received.
At that time, Jesus returned to Galilee with the power of the Spirit and his fame spread throughout the region. He taught in their synagogues and they praised him.
He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and according to his custom, on the Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and got up to read. He was given the scroll of the prophet Isaiah; he opened the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;
for this he consecrated me with anointing
and he sent me to bring the good news to the poor,
to proclaim release to the prisoners
and sight to the blind;
to set the oppressed free
and proclaim the year of the Lord’s grace “.
He rewound the scroll, handed it back to the attendant and sat down. In the synagogue, everyone’s eyes were fixed on him. Then he began to tell them: “Today this Scripture that you have heard has been fulfilled.”
