Sunday 2nd January 2022 – 2nd SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

From the Gospel according to John (1: 1-18)

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was, in the beginning, with God:
everything was done through him
and without him nothing has been made of what exists.
In him was life
and life was the light of men;
the light shines in the darkness
and the darkness has not overcome it.
He came a man sent from God:
his name was John.
He came as a witness
to bear witness to the light,
so that all might believe through him.
He was not the light,
but he had to bear witness to the light.
True light came into the world,
the one that enlightens every man.
It was in the world
and the world was made through him;
yet the world did not recognize him.
He came among him,
and his family did not accept him.
But to those who welcomed him
he gave power to become children of God:
to those who believe in his name,
which, not from blood
nor by the will of the flesh
nor by the will of man,
but from God they were begotten.
And the Word became flesh
and he came to dwell among us;
and we beheld his glory,
glory as of the only begotten Son
which comes from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
John testifies to him and proclaims:
“It was of him that I said:
He who comes after me
is ahead of me,
because he was before me ».
From its fullness
we all received:
grace upon grace.
Because the Law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
God, no one has ever seen him:
the only begotten Son, who is God
and is in the bosom of the Father,
it is he who revealed it.

Word of the Lord
