August 30, 2026 – TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

+ From the Gospel according to Matthew (16:21-27)

At that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an offense to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men.”
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his life? Or what can a man give in exchange for his life?

For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to his deeds.
