September 28, 2025 – Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
+ From the Gospel according to Luke (16:19-31)
At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees:
“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. A poor man named Lazarus was put at his gate, covered with sores, and longing to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table; but the dogs came and licked his sores.
One day the poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus at his side. Then he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.'”
But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus bad things. But now he is comforted here, while you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those who want to pass from there to us.’
He replied, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father’s house; for I have five brothers, that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ He replied, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ Abraham replied, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'”
