August 10, 2025 – 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
+ From the Gospel according to Luke (12:32-48)
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Sell what you possess and give alms; provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Be dressed and have your lamps lit, and be like those who await their master’s return from the wedding feast, so that when he comes and knocks, they may open the door immediately.
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself and have them recline at the table, and he will come and serve them. And if he comes in the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, blessed are those servants!
But understand this: if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Then Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us or to everyone?”
Then the Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will put in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unbelievers.
And the servant who knew his master’s will, but did not prepare himself or act accordingly, will receive severe beatings; but the one who did not know it and did things worthy of a beating will receive few.
From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
