@EART HOUR 2025 (Earth Hour)
Saturday 22 March 20:30-21:30.
It is an international event conceived and managed by the WWF that aims to draw attention to the urgent need to intervene on the ongoing climate changes through a simple but concrete gesture: turning off artificial lights for an hour on the established day.
Energy saving that has the effect of lower emissions of carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases (responsible for the greenhouse effect) aims to raise public attention on the issue of global warming.
On the occasion of the Earth Hour 2025 event, WWF Sicilia N. O. wanted to combine the objective of the event of mitigating the effects of climate change with the dissemination of musical culture and the knowledge and use of ancient instruments, organizing a musical concert with the Orchestra di Ance doppio in an environment suitable for the initiative: the square in front of the “Cathedral of Palermo”.
The bassoon classes present in the province of Palermo, specifically the I.C. Guastella – Landolina of Misilmeri, the I.C. “Beato Don Pino Puglisi” of Villafrati, the Liceo Musicale “Regina Margherita” of Palermo and the bassoon class of the Conservatory “A. Scarlatti” of Palermo, by virtue of a plan for cultural dissemination and development of little-known instruments such as the bassoon, have formed an orchestra of Ance Doppie formed by students and their teachers.
The reality of the orchestra of Ance Doppie is a true rarity in the national territory, at the moment in fact a similar reality exists only in Piedmont.
At 8:30 pm, after the lights that illuminate the front of the Cathedral are turned off, the musical concert will begin, integrated with a singing performance.
At 9:30 pm the lights will be turned back on and goodbye until next year.
