Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, will preside over the solemn Pontifical in the Cathedral of Palermo on the occasion of the liturgical feast of Santa Rosalia on 15 July. The announcement was made by the Archbishop of Palermo Monsignor Corrado Lorefice at the end of the diocesan synodal assembly which was held yesterday evening in the parish of Santa Luisa de Marillac.

A significant and prestigious presence, that of Parolin, not only for Palermo which is preparing to celebrate the fourth centenary of the discovery of the mortal remains of “Santuzza” but for the entire archdiocese. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, 69 years old, was appointed Secretary of State by Pope Francis in 2013 and in 2023 he is a member of the Council of Cardinals. “His presence in Palermo on the occasion of the celebrations for the 400 years since the discovery of the remains of Santa Rosalia – underlined the Archbishop – represents a sign of the Pope’s closeness to Palermo and to the people of Palermo and is also a sign of full ecclesial communion ”.
