Rosalian Jubilee Year, “La via di Rosalia” opens
Rediscover the votive aedicules – ancient and modern – of the historic center of Palermo through itineraries guided by guests of the San Carlo Center and the Diocesan Caritas who, after several training workshops, have qualified as “connoisseurs and transmitters” of the iconographic cult of Santa Rosalia ; together with them, the volunteers of the Center.
There are 6 events scheduled: from Sunday 28 April until Sunday 7 July 2024, starting from Vicolo San Carlo 62 (Piazza Revolution). Rosalia’s Way, through this project, is an active and concrete experience of inclusion and restitution of our faith: each itinerary in fact weaves a precise seam aimed at the possibility of transformation that beauty brings about through a testimony of faith towards Rosalia, example of a current woman alive in our time.
The Via di Rosalia is one of the most interesting projects of this Rosalian Jubilee Year announced by the Archbishop of Palermo Mons. Corrado Lorefice.
The groups will be made up of a maximum of 15 “travelers”, it will be possible to book starting from Monday 22 April on the Caritas Diocesana of Palermo Facebook page.

Newsstands guarded and cared for by the population of the neighborhoods will be rediscovered, supported by individual brotherhoods or simple devotees; newsstands as the mirror of a generous faith, which unites us and which makes our city itself, recognizable and beautiful in the simplicity of a light lit at the foot of Mount Pellegrino. The Jesuit father Giordano Cascini wrote about it in the 17th century: “One could not count the walls and the corners, which are innumerable, in which the image of Mary is now with decent ornaments and in various guises competing with the lamps every evening”.
The “La Panormitana” Social Cooperative, the operational arm of the Diocesan Caritas of Palermo, was established as a reality of help and proximity in the territory, starting from the awareness that conditions of human fragility can find opportunities for reception. The “other” is not only the bearer of needs, requests, problems, but a person who brings within himself resources and opportunities to overcome the difficult conditions themselves. Starting from this assumption, in the Jubilee Year which celebrates the fourth centenary of the discovery of the relics of our Patron Saint, the artistic-cultural project – already underway for some years – has developed through a new route through the streets of Palermo, rediscovering the newsstands votives dedicated to Santuzza. “The Cultural Itinerary” directly involves the guests of the San Carlo Center, making them protagonists of the narrative dedicated to Santa Rosalia and her presence within the city of Palermo.
We like to remember a passage from the Pontifical homily on the occasion of the 392nd Feast of Santa Rosalia: “Rosalia, young woman of luminous beauty, beauty to be safeguarded until the arrival of the groom, a woman therefore who prepares herself, who is concerned with safeguarding beauty, which does not allow itself to be led astray by anyone, does not allow itself to be disfigured by anyone; she is a determined woman because she does not take her eyes off her beloved.” (Mons. Corrado Lorefice, Archbishop of Palermo).
