January 21, 2024 – Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
+ From the Gospel according to Mark (1, 14 – 20)
After John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and said: «The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; convert and believe in the Gospel.”
Passing along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon’s brother, casting their nets into the sea; they were in fact fishermen. Jesus said to them: “Come after me, I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Going a little further, he saw Giacomo, son of Zebedèo, and Giovanni his brother, while they were also repairing the nets in the boat. And immediately he called them. And they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the boys and went after him.
Word of the Lord
The statues of St. James (known as the greater) and St. John (the evangelist), sons of Zebedee, reproduced in the photo, are the work of Antonello Gagini. They are displayed in the presbytery of the Cathedral and are part of the dismembered Gaginian gallery.
