Sunday 3 September 2023 – XXII of Ordinary Time
+ From the Gospel according to Matthew (16, 21 – 27)
At that time, Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, chief priests and scribes, and be killed and resurrected on the third day.
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him saying: «God forbid, Lord; this will never happen to you.’ But he, turning around, said to Peter: «Get behind me, Satan! You are a scandal to me, because you don’t think according to God, but according to men!».
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life, he will lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
For what good will a man have if he gains the whole world, but he loses his life? Or what can a man give in exchange for his life?
For the Son of Man is coming in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will repay each one according to his deeds.”
Word of the Lord.
