Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ
Before the Passover feast, Jesus, knowing that the hour had come to pass from this world to the Father, having loved his who were in the world, loved them to the end.
During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given everything into his hands and that he had come from God and was returning to God, got up from the table, she put off her clothes, took a towel and wrapped it around her waist. Then he poured water into the basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel he was wearing.
So he came to Simon Peter and he said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” He answered Jesus: «What I am doing, you now do not understand; you’ll understand later.” Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I don’t wash you, you will have no part with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!” Jesus added: «He who has taken a bath need not wash except his feet and everything is pure; and you are clean, but not all of you.” Indeed, he knew who was betraying him; for this he said: «You are not all clean».
When he had washed their feet, he took up his clothes, sat down again and said to them: “Do you understand what I have done for you? You call me Master and Lord, and you are right, because I am. If therefore I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you an example, in fact, for you too to do as I have done to you”.
Word of the Lord.
