+ From the Gospel according to Matthew (13:44-52)

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. A man found it and hid it, then in his joy he went and sold all that he had and bought that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls; when he found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and gathered the good into baskets, but threw the bad away. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Have you understood all these things? They answered him, “Yes.” And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”

The word of the Lord.
