September 7, 2025 – TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

+ From the Gospel according to Luke (14:25-33)

Now great crowds were traveling with Jesus. He turned and said to them,
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
Whoever does not carry his own cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Whoever of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.'”
Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, does not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is still a long way off, he sends messengers to him and asks for peace.
So then, whoever of you does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.”
