The interior of the Cathedral of Palermo shines with a completely renewed light thanks to the inauguration of the new electrical and lighting systems. An intervention that required, as the parish priest Mons. Filippo Sarullo and the engineer Maurizio Russo wanted to underline, “careful discernment both in the choice of designers and in the choice of artistic criteria that had to accompany the design”.

A complex work that has given the Cathedral a system capable of enhancing all the areas and the religious and historical-architectural elements present. “The costs of the intervention are covered in full by the Cathedral – underlined Mons. Sarullo – thanks to the proceeds of the monumental area with which the human promotion initiatives of the Cathedral are supported, especially in favor of those in difficulty and the management, maintenance and restoration of the ‘Cathedral monument’. The intervention, in addition to having a visual impact of great effect, represents a virtuous example of balance between “art, technology and sustainability, ensuring that this cultural heritage remains accessible to future generations”.

The project involved some of the most qualified companies in the sector: the supply of the lighting fixtures and the lighting design were entrusted to DZ Engineering of Forlì; it was joined by DBL Consulting S.r.l. of Eng. Di Blasi. The management of the works was entrusted to Eng. Maurizio Russo, who presented the technical aspects of the work in detail. The installation was carried out by Tecno G srl of Rino Zito.

To all those who were involved in the realization of this project, the thanks of the Archbishop of Palermo Mons. Mons. Corrado Lorefice, present at the inauguration, went.

The new system was turned on with an artistic play of lights, a prelude to the concert with pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach: the Toccata and Fugue in D minor performed on the organ by Valentino Taormina) followed by the Concerto in D minor BWV 1052 with Dorata Cei on the piano, the Concerto in F minor BWV 1056 with Gianfranco Pappalardo and the Concerto in G minor BWV 1058 with Giuseppe Grippi. The orchestral part was curated by the Orchestral Laboratory of the “Alessandro Scarlatti” Conservatory of Palermo, directed by Maestro Onofrio Claudio Gallina.
