+ From the Gospel according to John (8:1-11)

At that time, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. But early in the morning he came again to the temple, and all the people came to him. And he sat down and taught them.
Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery; and when they made her stand in the midst, they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. What do you say?” They said this to test him, so that they might have something to accuse him of.
But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they persisted in asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” And again he bent down and wrote on the ground. When they heard this, they went away one by one, beginning with the eldest.
They left him alone, and the woman was standing there. Then Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
