+ From the Gospel according to Luke (3:10-18)

The crowds asked John, “What should we do?” He answered them, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”
Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?” He said to them, “Collect no more than what you have been told.”
Soldiers also asked him, “And what should we do?” He said to them, “Do not oppress anyone or extort money from anyone. Be content with your wages.”
As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts whether John might possibly be the Christ, John answered them all, “I baptize you with water; but he who is more powerful than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” With many other exhortations John preached the gospel to the people.
