September 22, 2024 – XXV Sunday in Ordinary Time
+ From the Gospel according to Mark (Mk 9:30 – 37)
Jesus and his disciples were traveling through Galilee, but he did not want anyone to know where they were. He was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man will be handed over to men, and they will kill him; and after three days he will be killed and rise again.” But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.
They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they were silent. For on the way they had been arguing among themselves who was greatest. He sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
And taking a little child, he set him in the midst of them; and putting his arms around him, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but him who sent me.”
