+ From the Gospel according to Mark (Mk 7:31-37)

At that time, Jesus, having left the region of Tyre, went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, into the region of the Decapolis.
They brought to him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. He took him aside, away from the crowd, put his fingers into his ears, and touched his tongue with saliva. Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.
And he ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them, the more they proclaimed it, and were astonished, saying, “He has done all things well: he makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
