June 9, 2024 – X Sunday in Ordinary Time
+ From the Gospel according to Mark (3, 20 – 35)
At that time, Jesus entered a house and again a crowd gathered, so much so that they could not even eat. Then his men, hearing this, went out to fetch him; in fact they said: “he is beside himself”.
The scribes, who had come down from Jerusalem, said: “This man is possessed by Beelzebul and casts out demons through the chief of demons.”
But he called them and said to them with parables: «How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot remain standing; if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. Even Satan, if he rebels against himself and is divided, cannot remain standing, but is finished. No one can enter the house of a strong man and steal his goods unless he first binds him. Only then can he plunder his house.
Truly I say to you: everything will be forgiven to the children of men, even all their sins and all the blasphemies that they say; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven forever: he is guilty of eternal guilt.” For they said, “He is possessed by an impure spirit.”
His mother and his brothers arrived and, standing outside, sent for him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside looking for you.” But he answered them, “Who is my mother and who are my brothers?” Looking at those who were sitting around him, he said: «Here are my mother and my brothers! Because whoever does the will of God is brother, sister and mother to me.”
