April 28, 2024 – Fifth Sunday of Easter

+ From the Gospel according to John (15, 1 – 8)

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «I am the true vine and my Father is the farmer. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he cuts, and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes so that it bears more fruit. You are already pure, because of the word that I announced to you.
Remain in me and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains in the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, bears much fruit, for without me you can do nothing. Whoever does not remain in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; then they pick it up, throw it into the fire and burn it.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. In this my Father is glorified: that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.”
