+ From the Gospel according to Matthew (4, 12 – 23)
When Jesus learned that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee, left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum, by the sea, in the territory of Zebulon and Nèphtali, so that what had been said through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
on the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles!
The people who dwelt in darkness
saw a great light,
for those who dwelt in the region and shadow of death
a light has arisen.”
From then on, Jesus began to preach and say: “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is near”.
As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting their nets into the sea; they were in fact fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” And they immediately left their nets and followed him. Going further, he saw two other brothers, James, son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were in the boat, together with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. And they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.
Jesus traveled all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom and healing all sorts of diseases and infirmities among the people.
