Sunday 1st May 2022 – III of Easter
+ From the Gospel according to John (21,1-19)
At that time, Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples on the sea of Tiberias. And he manifested himself thus: Simon Peter, Thomas known as Dio, Nathanael of Cana of Galilee, the sons of Zebedee and two other disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I’m going fishing.” They said to him, “We are also coming with you.” Then they went out and got into the boat; but that night they caught nothing.
When it was already dawn, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize it was Jesus. Jesus said to them: “Children, do you have anything to eat?”. They replied, “No.” Then he said to them, “Cast your net on the right side of the boat and you will find.” They threw it away and could no longer pull it up due to the large amount of fish. Then that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter: “It is the Lord!” Simon Peter, as soon as he heard that he was the Lord, pulled his robe around his hips, because he was undressed, and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples, on the other hand, came with the boat, dragging the net full of fish: in fact, they were not far from the ground if not a hundred meters.
As soon as they got ashore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them: “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” Then Simon Peter got into the boat and hauled the net ashore full of large fish one hundred and fifty-three. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and eat.” And none of the disciples dared to ask him: “Who are you?” Because they knew very well that it was the Lord. Jesus came up, took the bread and gave it to them, and so did the fish. It was the third time that Jesus revealed himself to the disciples, after having risen from the dead.
When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter: “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”. He replied: “Sure, Lord, you know I love you.” He said to him: “Feed my lambs.” He said to him again, for the second time: “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”. He replied: “Sure, Lord, you know I love you.” He said to him, “Graze my sheep.” He said to him for the third time: «Simon, son of John, do you love me?». Peter was saddened that for the third time he asked him: «Do you love me?», And he said to him: «Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you ». Jesus answered him, ‘Feed my sheep. Verily, verily I tell you: when you were younger you dressed alone and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and another will clothe you and take you where you do not want to ». This he said to indicate by what death he would glorify God. And, having said this, he added, “Follow me.”
