Sunday 8th August 19th in Ordinary Time

From the Gospel according to John (6,41-51)

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven”.

At that time, the Jews began to murmur against Jesus because he had said: “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” And they said: “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph?” Do we not know his father and mother? How then can he say: “I came down from heaven”? ».

Jesus answered them: «Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will resurrect him on the last day. It is written in the prophets: “And all will be taught by God.” Everyone who has listened to the Father and learned from him comes to me. Not because someone has seen the Father; only he who comes from God has seen the Father. Verily, verily, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.
I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate manna in the desert and died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that whoever eats it does not die.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world ».
